Description

1968 Rolls - Royce Silver Shadow Mulliner Park Ward 2 Door Saloon Coupe (Pre Corniche) Coachbuilt by H. J. Mulliner Park Ward Ltd. of Willesden, London, 2 Door Fixed Head Coupe. A very rare early motor car with the extremely rare early style internal door handles, Chippendale dashboard, the original pre flared wheel arch exterior with the lovely non vented 15 inch hub caps, separate reversing lights, the early 6, 230cc V8 but the later 3 Speed automatic gearbox and of course the desirable chrome bumpers, Sundym Tinted Glass was ordered from new. Only 369 Right Hand Drive examples were built between 1966 and 1971, compare this number to 16, 717 Silver Shadow 4 door saloons. Purchased in July 1989 by the present family and has been maintained by Colbrook Specialists of Peterborough since with recent major expenditure in 2015 for £4, 990. 97 and £609. 89 in 2016, it has been garage kept and used sparingly alongside a 1966 Bentley M. P. W. fixed head also available separately.

Brewster Green Coachwork with single hand painted fine line with House of Commons Green Piped Leather 5 seat Interior.

Mileage displays 50, 125, Road Tax, M. O. T Test and London ULEZ Exempt, a very stylish and relaxing car to drive around London where in fact it spent most of its time from 1977 up until 1989.

Chassis and Engine Number CRH 4144, we have a copy of its build sheets and order documents from the Rolls-Royce Enthusiasts Club as well as old V5Cs and the purchase receipt from 1989. The original registration number, OOB 600G appears unused so could possibly be reinstated by the DVLA.

This fabulous SY series coachbuilt fixed head coupe was ordered originally from Jack Barclay in London on 25/ 06/ 1968 and then cancelled and re ordered from P. J. Evans on 28/ 06/ 1968, it was delivered to the said dealer on 16/ 08/ 1968 and was registered as OOB 600G on 20th August 1968 to C. C. Coombs of S + U Stores, Birmingham. Ownership changed to Andrew Goldcrown of London in 1977, then Roderick Mackenzie of Sutton, London in 1978 who registered it 2 ROD. It was later registered BGC 93G and was then registered BGC 239G as it is now. Lawrence Kayne of Ascot Ltd, Bruton Place, London purchased it in 1982 and it was later registered by the coachbuilding company James Young Ltd. of Berkeley Street, London, a tax disc holder is included, it was subsequently sold to the present long term family on 25/ 07/ 1989 and an Invoice is included.

The coachwork is superb for its age, these elegant fixed head saloons only share the bonnet with the Silver Shadow 4 door saloons, They are as spacious inside and even have four electric windows, the rears open outwards on a lovely hinge. The Burr Walnut woodwork is in lovely condition with Boxwood inlay to the dashboard, door trims and rear waistrails unique to the 2 door cars. A H. J. MPW Coachwork treadplate badge is on the drivers door sill. The boot closes with precision that is unique to the 2 door models and the bonnet is like closing a bank vault. The V8 engine starts on the first turn of the key and sounds lovely and performs superbly. This SY still has the unique smooth ride that no modern car can compete with today. It still has its original box of small tools and jack. The headlights are still the earlier domed type and this Rolls now runs on a set of later wider 235 Avon Turbosteel Tyres. The chrome radiator shell has the all important Spirit of Ecstasy Bonnet Mascot. We have a large number of M. O. T?s back to 1992 at 43, 251 and it was last M. O. T. tested in 2021 at 49, 977 miles. A genuine Corniche badge has been fitted to the boot and a car cover with the Rolls ? Royce logo is available extra.

These SY cars are very useable and are comparatively cheap to maintain with no ecus especially due to no road tax or M. O. T. tests being needed as well as very cheap Insurance, they are also increasing in value at the moment following the rare 2 door Silver Clouds value trend upwards. They are an extremely versatile and a comfortable way to travel long distances, a good two part video on YouTube is Harry Metcalfe of Harrys Garage driving his early Shadow to the Arctic Circle on winter tyres. Stanley Sedgwick, the famous past president of the Bentley Drivers Club drove a Corniche 1, 330 miles in one day in July 1973, taking a total time of 17 hours 22 minutes from Dunkerque to Marseille Return, this would be difficult to beat today with our enforced speed limits.

This Motor Car can be viewed by prior appointment at the owners home near Peterborough, with very good access from the A1 Road and the Mainline Railway, London to Edinburgh. It has been enthusiast owned and has been kept alongside a Bentley Corniche and other classic cars.

Price £39, 500 o. n. o.
