This is a wolf in sheep’s clothing, just two little badges on the doors give a hint at what’s under the bonnet, most people miss them and then are left astonished with its incredible performance, it eats 100 grand Range Rovers for breakfast.
Factory built and completely stock and unmodified this Clio Sport 172 is in very good condition all round, used sparingly in the last few years only doing just over 1000 miles per annum since 2016, in all round very good order, this one has had an easy life and been cared for.
Startling performance on demand, civilised cruising and comfortable town driving if you don’t stamp on the go pedal. Amazing fun to drive, a proper retro hot hatch the likes of which will never be built again, its all a bit mad shoehorning a 2lt 16v into a small Clio, but the results are stunning.
The car starts, runs and drives with no known or obvious faults, no warning lights, no beeps, squeaks, rattles of whines, we drove it back 80 trouble free miles, it stops on a sixpence, we have done a diagnostic check and its all clear and we have checked the fluids for level and contamination, please see the video for more info.
The 172 (Phase II) has a full Alcantara half leather embossed sports interior, Renault designed 16” alloys, xenon auto headlights, power windows, mirrors and doors, Sports mats and door step capping’s, alloy foot pedals, climate control, headlight washers, rain sensing wipers and a Sport badged steering wheel and silver clock surrounds.
Currently showing 96800 miles, the MOT history suggests this should be correct but we can’t warranty the miles. Its been MOT’d on its anniversary every year and never missed, it was registered on the 1st Nov 2001 and its current MOT runs until 1st Nov 2023 with no advisories.
We have the full logbook, handbook, manuals and wallet but sadly no service history, there is a handwritten note in the handbook stating “93079 miles in 2020, Cam bely, Aux belt, oil + filter”. We also have the HPI printout showing all clear and our own PDI inspection.
It’s not brand new, very close inspection will find minor imperfections, currently fitted with a stereo upgrade but the original one comes with the car. The steering wheel is showing a little age and the headlining is beginning to sag, both common but minor issues with Clio’s, these two areas and the lack of history have been reflected in the asking price, allowing the new owner plenty of scope to make affordable improvements.
Not too many 172’s about to buy, very few tidy and original ones and even less this well described and demonstrated, it’s a real lot of fun to drive and not crazy money, will shock the drivers of the overpriced Fiesta ST’s at the traffic lights, you can already hear them saying “What the hell” ! ! !
