Ruf made automotive history in 1987, setting a speed record of 342 km/ h with the CTR Yellow Bird, surpassing the Porsche 959 and the Ferrari F40. The RTurbo is a 996 Turbo to which Ruf added the GT2 gearbox and drivetrain, an improved clutch and a limited slip differential. Power was increased from 420 bhp to 550 bhp.
Delivered new to Stuttgart on 10 October 2000, it was converted into an RTurbo by Ruf in Sweden in 2006. After ordering parts from the Ruf Sweden centre, including adjustable Ohlins shock absorbers and rare Ruf Modular wheels, the preparation was completed by the Ruf parent company with the installation of the engine kit boosting the power to 550 bhp. The cost of the conversion was almost €48, 000, not including the roll cage, bucket seats and original Porsche harnesses. At the end of 2022, our Ruf RTurbo left Sweden for France, where it was registered in February 2023, after a visit to Ruf's parent company in Pfaffenhausen, Germany and now has less than 93, 500 km on the odometer.
Ruf's designs are renowned, rare and highly effective. The RTurbo, produced in fewer than 80 units, is a sensational machine, with its short-throw mechanical gearbox, yet surprisingly reassuring thanks to its 4-wheel drive and roll cage. The appeal of the 996 Turbo has never waned, and Ruf, now a fully-fledged manufacturer in its own right, has seen the value of its creations skyrocket in recent years.
