1948 Buick Super 56S Sedanet Right Hand Drive.
Of the 275, 000 cars Buick produced in 1948, 32, 860 were the 56S two door Sedanet. 959 were manufactured in right hand drive for export. This car was one of around 100 that were exported to South Africa. It has a 248 C. I. (4100cc) straight eight OHV engine, with a 'three on the tree' manual gearbox. The car was then imported to Holland in 2007, from where I purchased it in 2008.
Since buying it I have restored most of the car including a professional re-trim with hide seats, new carpets, West of England cloth headlining, gearbox and axle rebuild, recent clutch, all new wheel bearings, wheel cylinders, flexibles, tyres, battery, stainless exhaust, most glass etc. etc. Work included a 12 volt conversion and alternator. Most of the chrome has been re-plated and is in very good to perfect condition.
Recent work in 2020 included the dismantling of the front and rear wings and bonnet and a bare metal respray of these panels. This took nearly 800 hours.
The car was the subject of a Classic American magazine feature, and won ‘Best Buick’ at the Pre-50 AAC show in 2021.
It is very useable (being RHD), extremely reliable and will cruise all day at 50mph. It is a very unusual sight in the UK, and practical to maintain as most parts are available in the US. Some spares, handbook, workshop manual, copy of magazine article are included in the price.
