Description
History:
In the 1950s, the Swiss car body company Graber from Wichtrach was famous for its robust and fuss-free aluminium car bodies. Manufacturers like Rolls Royce, Bentley or Daimler entrusted their chassis to the humble Bernese coachbuilder. Alvis also fitted a robust chassis with a powerful 6-cylinder engine, catering for those customers who did not want to stand out like in a Rolls Royce or Bentley. One of the 22 hand-built Alvis convertibles was made in 1955 for a gentleman from Zollikon. The customs clearance certificate dated 24 March 1955 is available. In 1971, the Alvis Graber changed hands to a family from Eastern Switzerland, who still owns the Alvis today. There are receipts for the last veteran's inspection in 2018, as well as for the gearbox overhaul from that time.
Bodywork and paintwork:
The paintwork is in very good condition. The aluminium has left small stress cracks in the paintwork here and there, and there is a dent visible on the wing indicator, which the owner's family has deliberately left as it is until now. The rust-free aluminium body is very nice and without further injuries.
Interior:
The interior was renewed true to the original an unknown time ago. On the occasion of the restoration, the soft top was also re-dressed. The well-kept ambience can be enjoyed without any effort.
Engine and mechanics:
A joy is the smoothness of the engine and the function of the brakes. However, there is a need for service.
Chassis:
The chassis is in overall good condition and ready for inspection. The underbody and chassis deserve an intensive cleaning with a full conservation.
Driving experience:
The convertible surprises with its pleasant, civil and very comfortable ride. The engine is smooth and torquey. Graber's marvel does not show off its lines, it is also beautifully finished and shows its engineering prowess in details, such as with an exemplary soft top mechanism.
Recommendation:
If you want to call a rare elegance your own, if you want to belong to the illustrious club of Graber friends, and if you want a classic with which you can easily travel a longer distance, this is the right car for you. The selling price is understood as the price as it is, with the still valid MOT of 2018. Goodtimer recommends a complete technical inspection with partial revision of individual components as well as the complete conservation of the chassis and underbody to maintain the value of this wonderful automobile. A corresponding expertise is available and will be gladly discussed with you during your visit.
