Description
We are extremely excited to offer the serious MG aficionado or collector the possibly unique opportunity to acquire this beautiful late model factory built MGB GT V8 presented in gorgeous damask red with a complimentary original factory black velour interior and alloy wheels.
This particular car has a fascinating history having been purchased by the late Alistair Naylor of Naylor Brothers (MG) in 1977, at which point it had covered a mere 4872 miles. This V8 was used sparingly by Alistair until 1983 at which point the car had deteriorated to some extent and the decision was made to strip it right down and rebuild it with all new factory panels and other components as necessary. At this point the MG had covered approximately 38, 000 miles only. However, it appears that the restoration was never completed, Naylor Brothers having got into financial difficulties in the mid 1980s. The car was then carefully mothballed and wasn’t completed until it changed hands again in 2007. The new owner at the time who was possibly even more fastidious than Mr Naylor completed the restoration to his own exacting standards. This included a full engine, gearbox, overdrive and final drive rebuild, with every other conceivable detail attended to. As can be seen in the photos this car looks as good underneath as on top. The reason being that the last owner put This MGB GT V8 straight into his private collection without using it, where it has obviously been cosseted, maintained and kept on the button. We have a significant amount of documentation to support this.
The current recorded mileage is just 39064 us having completed limited testing in dry conditions only. We can confirm that this example drives superbly, as it should, and feels as close as it is possible to get to driving a new car from the showroom in period.
To summarise this is a really A1 genuine, low mileage example of the marque that has benefitted from a super high quality ‘open chequebook’ restoration, drives beautifully, has an original mint interior and is ready to be either used as is or to form part of a collection. As such we believe it will make a fantastic long term investment.
