Biarritz Sports And Classic Cars (BSCC) is delighted to present this 1972 MG B Costello V8.
The MGB Costello V8 was produced between 1969 and 1973 by the British tuner Ken Costello. During that period around 225 MGB Costello were built, of which 190 were coupes, making it a rare specimen.
Ken Costello designed these conversions to fit a 3. 5 Costello V8 on the lightweight MGB chassis. It develops 150 horsepower and is paired with a short‑throw four‑speed gearbox with overdrive.
Following these artisanal years of production, MG eventually offered its own V8 version of the MGB, directly inspired by Costello’s. It was produced in much larger numbers (about 2, 600).
This example wears the traditional livery: English green with a Camel interior. It is right-hand drive, as are all Costello MGBs produced.
It is in perfect working order and ready to hit the road.
This Costello V8 was sold new in Germany, making it the only example delivered in that country. It is identified and listed officially in the mgcostello. com register.
It is a MKII, distinguishable by its flat bonnet rather than the bulged version of the MKI. The engine is fed by a twin‑barrel Weber carburettor.
The V8 engine comes from the Rover P6, the most powerful of the original V8s, complemented by the Costello preparation, notably including the inlet pipe engraved with the tuner’s name. At the time, advertising pitched this car as a “Porsche 911 killer and Jaguar E‑type killer.”
For maintenance and reliability, many interventions have been carried out, including replacement of the radiator, the brake master cylinder, the filters, and various mechanical improvements. A large number of invoices and service documents are available, evidencing the care lavished on this exceptional car.
Much more desirable than a factory MG V8, this Costello is an iconic testament to the automotive spirit of the 1960s–70s: audacity, ingenious tinkering, racing, passion all in one.
