The “ 1100” or BMC ADO16 was produced from 1962 until 1974 and was Britain’s best-selling car for several years, with nearly 2. 5 million built in Austin, Morris, Riley, Wolseley and MG variants.
461FXR is an early Morris 1100 in “Connaught Green”, first registered May 1963 and one of a small number left with an original pre-suffix registration plate.
This is the second time that we have owned this beautiful Morris 1100. I first bought just before the pandemic, planning to sell it on but I ended up keeping it for a year and used it regularly during the Summer months before selling it to its most recent owner who recently sold it back to us.
The mileage is 79, 000 which is almost certainly correct, when I bought it the mileage was 63, 000, so it’s been used and enjoyed over the last three or four years. At that time it had a slight snick from 3rd to 4th gear so we had the gearbox overhauled (£800 plus parts) More recently it has had a new water pump fitted, the cooling system and heater overhauled and modern, more powerful headlamps fitted as well as routine servicing. I drove it back from North Devon to Staffordshire and we have carried out various minor jobs and changed the oil and filter.
This lovely 1100 is an older, high quality restoration that remains in beautiful, solid condition with a high quality paint-finish and a good level of originality. The 1098cc “A” series is particularly sweet, it runs and drives beautifully and is a go anywhere car that’s ready to use.
