Mercedes 240 GD. 2, 213 kms (1, 375 miles) from new and subject to a three year restoration totalling a substantial five-figure sum.
In the summer of 2019 I set out on a mission to build my dream G-Wagon. The aim was to to restore / restomod with original 70?s styling in mind. This example started life as an ex Singapore military import, stripped back and rebuilt to the specification you see today. Photographic restoration documented and available on request.
Bodywork & Exterior
- Lower windscreen surround replaced with new metal - fabricated from scratch.
- N/ S sill replaced, + new metal to lower O/ S sill
- New metal to floor
- Stripped and fully re sprayed in 1970?s Mercedes ?Dark Olive? (B & C Coachworks, Haslemere)
- All other exterior parts shot blasted and powder coated (Kirdford Shot Blasting)
- Wheels shot blasted and powder coated, including spare. Shod in Michelin tyres (Primo Alloys, Woking)
- Hood frame fabricated to German ?Wolf? lower roof line spec, shot blasted and powder coated
- New mohair hood (£3000) sourced from Germany and tailored to car (CW Trimming) with roll-up sides and rear
- ?Wet weather? doors retrimmed (CW Trimming). I have never driven the car with them on but they?re included in the sale.
- New light clusters and reflectors
- New NATO-spec Gerry Can
Interior
- Danish ?Wolf? heater fitted
- Dashboard painted in matching body colour
- Seats refinished in tan (small tear to rear of passenger seat, pictured in photos)
- Seat mounts refurbished
- Interior finished in Raptor bed liner, you can chuck your mountain bike on and not worry about scuffing it
- New seat belts and mounting points
- Rear jump seats with seat belts (not pictured) included - can be fitted in 10 minutes
- Fog light wired in to dash
- Military light system retained (you can kill the front / rear lights and number plate bulbs and pretend you?re, a very slow, Steve McQueen).
- Kill switch fitted for battery, great for winter storage and starts instantly, every time.
Mechanical
- Desirable plastic fuel tank repaired with new sender + fuel lines
- New fuel pump fitted
- New fuel primer pump
- New brake master cylinder
- New ignition barrel and keys + ignition vacuum system
- Gear shift turret / mechanism rebuilt
- New heater system
- Differentials, gearbox and engine oils changed with new filters and re-sealed
- Power steering and brake systems flushed with new fluid
To summarise, a seriously well sorted G with all the usual expensive bits taken care of. Fully serviced and ready to go
MOT until August 2024 with no advisories (no advisory on any MOT since I bought it in to the country)
