DPX 762 was manufactured in 1936, first registered on 14th April 1938 and is a UK RHD example that comes with an extensive history file to include an original brown buff logbook dating back to the late 1950?s. This example is an incredibly rare car, in 1936 an assembly plant was established in a disused cinema in Hammersmith and in over two years 400 RHD cars were assembled. Just a few prototypes were fitted with experimental side windows in the C pillars and four seat configuration, and DPX 762 is one of these very rare cars. Until this car was discovered, it was understood that two of these rare side window prototype cars were known, one in Holland, and one in England.
From the paperwork we can see the Fiat spent most of its life in the South East and South West. The Fiat changed hands between Sussex, Surrey and Somerset and in 2008 was discovered in a dry barn. The Topolino required major refurbishment and its ?new' Surrey based owner embarked on a ten years restoration. The body was taken back to bare metal and subject of a complete respray, the interior was fully re-furbished and then Fiat was then mechanically re-commissioned.
Since completion, the Fiat has been completley unused and has therefore required some further re-commissioning. The clutch has been re-conditioned, the brakes re-lined, brake pipes replaced, a new master cylinder fitted, king pins replaced, a new fuel pump fitted, the charging system overhauled and the carburetor also overhauled. The Fiat now starts on the button and is driving very well.
This is a fabulous rare example, it's a true collectors piece and in many respects an unrepeatable opportunity.
