Mercedes only built 235 250SE Coupés in right-hand drive, with presumably less than half of that being destined for the UK market. The W111 coupés and cabriolets were Mercedes last hand-built car and to many eyes one of their most elegant.
This 250SE was first registered in the UK on May 19th 1966. It was finished in Moss Green metallic contrasted by a beige leather interior – in our opinion one of the most beautiful colour schemes – and optioned with the four-speed automatic transmission.
The last owner of this car owned it from 1997, but it spent the last 15-20 years dry-stored in a barn.
It is a remarkably original car and is unrestored. It retains its original colour, engine and interior. The body is also largely original, retaining its original floors, panels and has had very little previous repair work.
This is a project car, yet it is running and driving, and benefits from rebuilt brake calipers, new front discs and pads, we have changed the oil and filter, fuel filter and fitted four new Blockley period-style radials in the correct 185R14 size. However, it will require further work in order to be pressed into regular use, which is to be expected with a 57 year old car after a long period lying idle, and we would advise the car is transported.
The underside is extremely solid with original unwelded floors, boot floor and inner wings and needs very little further attention. The rear wheel arches will need some work in the future, but all outer panels are in good condition.
The interior would benefit from a retrim and refurbishment of the woodwork.
Overall, this W111 Coupé is something of a survivor with a lovely patina. You could fully restore it, and we would be happy to carry that out for the next owner, or you could improve it in stages.
A fabulous opportunity to acquire one of these indescribably elegant cars, in rare right-hand drive, super original and beautiful original colours. It is a car with tremendous potential.
