Your opportunity to purchase a running project which is nearing completion for considerably less than the financial outlay so far. This belongs to my friend/ work colleague. Having owned and daily driven a standard RWA Midget for years, he set out to build himself a reliable road car which could also be used for some fun at hill climbs and a track day if he desired. His daily job is as a panel beater and fabricator on classic and modern high end cars. As this was being done for himself to keep he didn’t cut any corners or spare expense. Everything on this is either new or reconditioned. The asking price doesn’t even cover the cost of the components, let alone the hundreds of labour hours that have gone into the body, paintwork and assembly. He has photos of all the work carried out along with a large pile of paperwork and receipts to support.
Why's he not finishing it? He no longer has the time or money due to changing circumstance, plus loosing it's storage.
It's a 1974 round wheel arch model believed to have been off road since the 80’s. The shell and panels were media blasted back to bare metal, a jig made to secure the body, then mounted on a rotisserie. Jenolite rust treatment was sprayed over all the bare metal prior to any repair. Panels replaced include the inner/ outer sills, lower “a” pillars, back panel, complete boot floor, and some small sections of floor let in flush so it's not visible. The floor even retains its original factory body number stamping. The replacement panels and cavities were epoxy primed and/ or zinc weld etched prior to fitting. The whole shell was epoxy primed prior to shaping and re-priming with a 2k primer. Care and attention was made to ensure the panels gaps and alignment are superb.
The roof is an original Ashley GT fibreglass item. The front end is a new Ashley fibreglass item from Motobuild. He did however cut this and re-matt/ resin areas to ensure fit and alignment. He also custom made from fibreglass and fitted the recesses for the brand new Lucas spot lights. So this front end is a one off modelled to be a homage to the famous Le-Mans racing Midget. The car was seam sealed and painted using a water basecoat and PPG lacquer in a 60’s period colour similar to the MG teal. The inside, underside, and engine bay are a solid grey colour with a light coating of texture stone chip protection applied to the underside and wheel arches prior to painting . Might seem strange to some, but he wanted a contrasting colour which wasn’t just plain old black, and by using a non factory colour wanted it to be more apparent that it was done on purpose rather than a car that hadn’t been stripped down properly to colour change. The lines it’s been painted to on the body mean the exterior could be colour changed without having to strip the whole car down to a bare shell again.
The engine is the original 1275cc unit. Having never been rebuilt it wasn’t going to be left to chance. It was fully stripped down, cleaned, light skim on the head, all painted, then fully rebuilt to include an uprated Nicky Swift SW05 camshaft with vernier pulley. The gearbox and rear axle were re-built to standard specification by Moss Europe with an exchange propshaft also from Moss. Armstrong 25% uprated sports shocks all round, along with new lowered and uprated leaf and front springs, again from Moss. All the bushes have been upgraded to polyurethane, and all the other ball joints, wheel bearings, etc are new. The steering rack is a rebuilt unit from Peter May Engineering. The brakes including calipers, lines, etc - all new. A new wiring loom was made to order by All Sparks with additions specified to include the spot light wiring and wiring for an auxiliary 12 volt socket, and wiring for a stereo if he decided to fit one. There are newly rebuilt twin carbs on a performance matched Maniflow inlet manifold linked to all new fuel lines, fuel tank, and K&N filter. Performance 123 electronic programmable advance distributor, with a full performance Maniflow exhaust system and branched manifold with resonator to keep the noise levels sensible. There are simply too many new or reconditioned parts to list them all.
The car has been sent via recovery truck to renowned “A” series specialist Slark Race Engineering where it was set up on the dyno. It has not been driven on the road though as the car is not finished.
The car will come with (not fitted) a great condition standard black interior with new black carpets, a convertible roof frame, and all the glass including for the hard top, the original lock set which matches the heritage certificate, wiper motor, and various other bits and pieces. Also included is a brand new bolt in roll cage (500 quids worth) which is specific fitment for use with the Ashley hard top. You would need to buy a seal kit from Motobuild/ Ashley for the roof, and minor items like new door seals, and then it’s up to you what you wanted to do in the way of wheels and tyres.

Would consider taking a cheaper classic car in part-ex, so let us know what you have if you're interested in doing a deal.
