The MONZA 875 Monoposto open wheel racing cars were designed to encourage youngsters keen to enter the sport of motor racing and provide them with a simple and inexpensive car to test their skills.
It was called the MONZA 875 due to the ‘Troffeo Cadetti’ being launched in 1964 at the Monza Junior circuit and that the cars were to cost no more than Italyian Lire 875, 000. Youngsters from the age of fifteen flocked to join this series, with over sixty manufacturers, consisting of drivers themselves, carozzerias, engineers, coachbuilders, mechanics and small garages building cars, all very different, but keeping to the laid down specifications and costs and all using FIAT 500 suspension parts and the engine from the FIAT 500 Giardiniera. A flat air-cooled twin that was highly tuneable and robust and was used until the series developed into using larger four cylinder units. The Formula Monza 875 Series was so successful that it attracted between eighty to one hundred and twenty cars and drivers to each meet- ing, driving to crowds of as many as 5, 000 paying spectators.

The series carries on today using modern engines keeping to the spirit of the 1960s. Surviving Monza’s are highly sought after and are being restored and raced in Retro Historical Events in Italy.
