There are not many low mileage Rover Metro GTA’s that have survived and this one has some great provenance. The car has covered just 56, 000 miles from new and for its first two years it was owned by Rover Group Ltd, Company Vehicle Control registered at Longbridge. The Metro comes with all its original manuals, handbooks and sales pack and this confirms Haskins’ Garage Ltd in Swindon were the Rover dealership who had the car for its first two years. It was serviced by them and stamped in the book at 6414, 12474 and 24559 miles. In 1992 the Metro sold to its first private owner in Suffolk, and according to the file it stayed within the family most of it life changing hands between mother, son, cousin and father in law. Whilst in Suffolk maintenance and servicing was regular with stamps in the book at 33205, 35002, 35921, 39932, 41571 and 43669 miles in 2005.
MOT’s from 1999 to 2023 show low mileage, but regular use and a huge file of invoices from 1998 accompany the car totally £4600 of maintenance and upkeep. Expenditure within the past 5000 miles includes new tyres, cambelt, water pump, exhaust, brake pads and slave cylinders, new points and plugs. Then with its most recent York based owner, the GTA has had £1900 spent during 2023 and work included regular servicing, and £700 of this was removing all hydragas dispensers and fitting a re-charged set of units and then re-pressurising the suspension system.
The Metro has current MOT until the summer and has come to us in part exchange for an MGB GT. Test drives are welcome, and the car drives very well, it has no known major mechanical issues and the low mileage engine and gearbox feel great. The bonnet most certainly requires re-painting, the rest of the paintwork bright with minor blemishes and small blisters present in various places. On the whole it offers a great opportunity to purchase a strong, low mileage example with excellent paperwork, original manuals and books, and spare keys.
