1959 Borgward Isabella Coupe with 65, 000 Miles
We present to you this – a charming 1959 Borgward Isabella Coupe presented delightfully in two-tone baby blue and dark grey.
Evocative of the ever-popular Karmann Ghia, this Borgward Isabella Coupe is a more grandiose alternative, trumping its competitors with luxury and elegance in abundance.
When we came across it and saw just how well it presented, we knew right away that it deserved to be in our showroom. It is a particularly rare car to see, especially with it being a coupe as only 10, 000 were made.
Imported to the UK in 1983, it was owned by a dedicated member of the UK Borgward owners’ clubs since 1991. This car has been loved immensely throughout those 33 years.
It was completely restored in the year 2000 and we have photographs showing how the bodywork was professionally stripped, prepared, and repainted.
Although now 20 years on from the restoration, it does still present very well. The chrome bumpers are shiny and new looking and the whole paintwork is glossy and generally in very nice order. Indeed, there are one or two paint defects and some minor pitting on a few chrome parts but let’s not forget it is 65 years old.
Inside the car, it is fabulous. Wonderfully designed and curated 1950s styling interior.
The attention to detail is evident in the carefully crafted dashboard and stylish instrumentation. The seats are designed for comfort, and the overall interior exudes a sense of refinement that complements the car's exterior aesthetics. During the restoration, the interior leather was all retrimmed and you can see that only the best high quality leather was used.
Under the bonnet, the Isabella Coupé housed a robust four-cylinder engine, delivering a balance of performance and efficiency. The car's driving experience was characterized by a smooth suspension, making it a comfortable cruiser on both city streets and open roads.
The car also benefits from 123 electronic ignition, a new starter motor, and rebuilt carburettors, a recent service and five new tyres. Presenting in right hand drive format, this Borgward has clearly been very well cared for in recent years and thoroughly enjoyed by the current vendor.
