The arrival of Val Page at Ariel in 1925, as Chief Designer, sparked a turnaround for the Selly Oak firm. By 1930, the Ariel single, designed by Page, featured a rear-mounted magneto and a distinctive timing cover. This engine's basic design, although frequently revised, persisted well into the post-war era. In 1932, the sports versions were named 'Red Hunter,' and under Page's successor, Edward Turner, they developed into fast and stylish machines. In mid-1946, the Hunters became the first models to include Ariel's new telescopic front fork, and by the following year, they offered the optional Anstey Link plunger rear suspension.
This 1952 Ariel VHA 500cc is a much sort after machine, it is fitted with an alloy 500cc engine. It is not known when the restoration was completed. The late owner purchased the Ariel for his collection of machines in 2018. He used it for a short time before laying it up for the last couple of years. In good all round order, it will require some general checking over before placing back on the road. It is offered with a current V5C and an Ariel dating certificate confirming its originality.
