HELLO and welcome to Martin Howey Classics (Est. 26 years).
Today's offering may not be the most exciting, the most thrilling or even the most popular 1960s classic I have sold this year. But do you know what? It is my favourite car of the year so far!
Yes, all right, so I can be a little weird when it comes to classic estate cars. More often than not, I love their practical and usable appeal. Also, as a huge Rootes Group fan, this is my sort of car. My sort of everyday car. I car I would willingly keep as my own regular user. I have used it every day for the past week, driving around 80 miles or so and it is simply wonderful. Being a Mark IV Superminx, the engine size is no longer 1600cc but the tried and tested 1725cc. It is like driving a two-year-old car back in the 60s. It flies along, it is so light to handle and it's just a joy.
Quite clearly, this estate car has spent its life as something of a family pet. Her panels are mega straight and - most importantly - she is an un-restored classic. That is so say she has sympathetic touch-ups here and there but, basically, I would estimate at around 90 per cent of her paintwork being original. Now, back in the day 60s cars would have looked like this when they were maybe four or five years old. Not many survived into the mid 70s and nor were they expected to. But remember. This delightful old girl is 57-years-old! She boasts a lovely interior with original un-damaged seats, headlining and dash. Even the interior roof light operates with the doors.
Next we come to the practical side. With the rear seat folded down flat, she offers a super load bay. Again the condition of her rubber mats are excellent.
Her underside is just as impressive as the rest of the vehicle. Clean, tidy and seemingly without any obvious repairs.
As mentioned earlier, she is a superb driver with that 1725cc unit on board.
These Superminx estates are not readily available and I am not really totally convinced that I want to part with this fine example in Willow Green with contrasting upholstery. But, as ever, they come and they go and they need to make way for more classics coming in the back door as they leave via the front.
You could not fail to enjoy this classic 1960s estate.

As with most classic cars, there may be faults and quirks whilst, almost inevitably, some degree of tinkering and care will always be called for. Such are the joys of owning an antique vehicle and they must be taken within their own context and not compared to modern day cars. They are sold as old, mainly out-dated machines and come without any comeback whatsoever. They are my terms and conditions.
My classic cars are motoring antiques. This car, for example, is 57-years-old. It's not two, five or even ten-years-old as your own everyday car may be. It has been in service for more than half a century and so will have quirks and faults in there somewhere. However, faults on these old girls are not always apparent when buying and selling classics which is what I do. I do not restore them, nor do I pretend that they are concours cars. The majority of them go out as they came in, and I continue to enjoy finding more - a skill which is becoming increasingly difficult as many of you will be aware. They deserve to be taken on as "family pets" and cared for through thick and then. They don't make them any more and demand now out-strips supply.
