1966 Sunbeam Alpine
Registration No. BLS 524D
Chassis No. Bthe details belowGT
Engine No. Bthe details belowGT
The original Sunbeam Alpine built by Rootes was introduced in 1953. Initially conceived as a two seat sports car, it had a modest 1. 2 litre engine. In 1959 the Series II was introduced with a larger 1. 6 litre engine, progressing through the Series III which refined the design and styling and it was particularly popular in the USA. The Series IV was introduced in 1964 and the soft and hard top versions shared the same 82 bhp engine with single carburettor. New styling removed the back fins but that proved unpopular. The final version, the Series V was introduced in 1965 and was built through to 1968. This version was fitted with a 1725cc engine with a tin Zenith Stromberg Carburettor. By this time they were no longer offered with automatic transmission and just over 19, 000 were constructed.
The first of two Alpines in the sale today was registered in April 1966. Nicely finished in blue, the vendor states there is some finishing work to be carried out to the interior, door panels and windows. We’re told the car does run and drive and it is fitted with a hard top and alloy wheels. The chassis and bodywork are described as good.
Sold with a current V5c, the car is MOT and Tax exempt being registered as an Historic Vehicle.
Estimate: £6, 000 – 7, 000
