We are delighted to present for sale this early 1972 Series 3 Land Rover®, finished in popular Light Pastel Green colour scheme with sand canvas and Limestone Wheels. This Series has had a raft of upgrades during the previous owners care in order to make it as usable as possible within the period set up – and this has created a Series 3 which is amongst one of the best we’ve had the pleasure to drive in recent times.

Externally, this Series has all the features you’d expect to see – vintage number plates, rear grab handles, matching bonnet mounted spare, recent canvas, front lifting eyes, etc etc. There are also a raft of upgrades fitted which are a real help – the tow ball and electrics to allow towing, side steps for easier passenger access, larger defender style door mirrors for upgraded visibility and 750 road biased tyres for a strong stance without compromising on-road driving. We think the photos do the talking here – it looks just right and attracted lots of positive waves and smiles on our test route.

On the inside, the interior is very much a standard affair, which is what we like to see – three recent standard front seats, with deluxe matting to the footwells. A trio of seatbelts mean all front occupants are as safe as possible when driving along. The rear is unfitted with the exception of a load mat to protect the floor against scratches… should the new owner want to increase seating to seven people including the driver, rear bench seats can be fitted for £595.

Out on the road though is where this Series 3 stands out – it has had about every conceivable and financially sensible upgrade in the period format to make driving as enjoyable as possible. 750 road biased tyres are fitted for both a good look and to give extra gearing – the overdrive means the cruising experience is as quiet as reasonably possible and the free wheeling hubs mean that with these three items combined, the best possible fuel economy is also achieved. A Weber Carburettor is fitted, along with a sports air filter for maximum power, too …. the engine has been previously been reconditioned by Turner Engineering – and has the reconditioning plate on the rocker cover, as the photos show. Parabolic Springs mean a better ride than standard too, and an upgraded servo system means the brakes are as effective as possible. The big attraction with this particular Series is we often see these upgrades, but we almost never see ALL of these upgrades in one package, short of our own rebuild programme…. so if you are wanting a period Series which is as drivable as possible – this is as good as they really can be.

In summary then, if you are looking for an early Series 3 in the period set up, with the popular light pastel green colour scheme and the very best options in terms of the period drive – then this could be for you. With the added bonus of MOT & Tax Exemption, alongside classic insurance, it should also prove to be as cost effective and low fuss as a Series can be, whilst being as pleasurable to drive as possible too.
