Bought new on the 22ND October 1957 this cute little van is very sensibly priced, would be an ideal advertising vehicle or equally just great fun to ride around, take on picnics and pub visits, please don’t miss our comprehensive YouTube demonstration video which shows the van in its entirety.
The current keeper has had the van since 2011 and the one before owned it from 2003, with just 4 other keepers recorded since 1957, it shows signs of regular maintenance with everything well greased and lubricated. There’s always a selection of vehicles available to me when I want to run an errand, and since it arrived I can’t help but jump in the van, its great fun.
It starts instantly and drives really well the 1096cc engine pulling strongly through all the gears and will keep up with modern traffic on all but motorways, great clutch with no slip or judder and it stops very well for a 1957 van (again please see the video for a brake demo), handbrake is good, all the head / side lights, wipers, washers, horn, slide down windows, quarter lights and heater work properly, both front doors and the rear door open easily and click shut and stay shut.
There is no breathing from the oil filer cap when running, its tidy enough in the engine bay, no wander at the steering wheel and no veering if you brake hard, its sitting on very good set of tyres all with ample tread and no signs of age cracks.
Recent investment with new carpets and recently refurbished front seats, the door cards and headlining are presentable, it has the optional fold down rear seat fitted so it’s a 4 seater. There are some additional gauges fitted without drilling the dashboard face and they seem to all be working, the van shows good oil pressure and a steady temperature.
Currently showing only 3847 miles, however this unlikely to be correct and it’s has more than likely gone round or been reset over the years. The van is HPI clear, we have the full current logbook and a handbook, despite being MOT exempt it will be getting a new MOT this week, the road tax is free, classic insurance should be a round £100 for most drivers over 25 making it very cheap to park up with your name on the side, legally on any road, service parts are readily available there are a multitude of clubs, rallies, regional and national groups for these charming little vans and cars.
The paintwork is ok, its far from perfect, but it is presentable and priced accordingly, if you want to win best in show, look elsewhere, it’s a very honest looking and very usable van, you’d not be afraid to take anywhere, its working van, not a Rolls Royce.
It will have had the inevitable body and welding repairs over the years and has survived intact, at some point it has had rear windows fitted (they come with the van, glass and rubbers), there was a “Countryman” version available back in the day and clearly, it’s now been repanelled as a van. In the rear is a spare wheel, jack, brace and some other bits and bobs.
As with any classic car there are areas to be improved, we’d recommend and oil and filter change, the choke cable can be sticky, the front door seals are not a great fit and could be easily replaced, but we are being fussy here, you can use it as it is.
There are always a few A35 vans to pick from, you will NOT find another with such a detailed description and in-depth demonstration video, a new MOT and available for under 6 and half grand, it’s probably the cheapest, up and running A35 van on the market. Nothing hidden and nothing to hide, any inspection welcomed.
If you’re in business, this will be the best advertising money you ever spend and you still have a van to sell if you want to cash in later, which also applies to a buyer just wanting it for fun.
Probably the best value A35 van on the market, it might not be the most pristine van available, but it will do the same advertising job and provide the same motoring fun as one twice or even three times its price.
