This lot will be auctioned via Iconic Auctioneers, The March Timed Online Auction on Friday the 28th of March, Online. Background:
The 993 series marked the end of air-cooled 911 production for Porsche and while the model resembled a development of the outgoing cars, Porsche’s engineers redesigned their standard bearing model from the ground up to such an extent that only around 20% of its parts were carried over from the previous generation, all wrapped in a stylishly sensuous skin from British designer Tony Hatter.
Naturally there was more power from the 3. 6-litre M64 engine, but along with the increase in performance came a brand new all-alloy subframe carrying coil and wishbone rear suspension, finally banishing the dreaded lift-off oversteer.
For the first time, all models came with a 6-speed manual transmission, with a 4-speed Tiptronic as an optional alternative. The 993’s refined performance and handling swiftly won over all the 'if it’s not air-cooled, it’s not a 911' die-hards, as well as captivating new fans.
The Carrera 2S was established as the flagship naturally aspirated rear-wheel drive model, with a small number of late cars coming as standard with the much sought-after 'wide arch' turbo body. Performance was also impressive, with 285bhp, 340Nm of torque, 0-62mph in 5. 4 seconds and a top speed of 168mph.
The Car:
This beautiful 1997 model was supplied new in the UK, as evidenced by its C16 model designation and presents well in Ocean Blue Metallic over a Classic Grey leatherette interior.
Options are also plentiful, with the car boasting a host of options from new: 432 - steering wheel with Tiptronic S paddles, 249 - Tiptronic S transmission, 567 - windshield green graduated tint, 573 - air-conditioning, 602 - third brake light 'high mount' and 650 - sunroof.
The history is extensive, with much of it covering the present keeper's tenure, which started in 2001. Every MOT and invoice from that period is on file, including his original purchase invoice. These documents detail the fastidious care with which the car was maintained, virtually at any expense. The car has been in dry storage for around six months and has been used sparingly in recent years. Recent maintenance includes two new rear tyres and a new Bosch battery. Supplied with a fresh MOT.
The paintwork is mostly original, although the file suggests that the bumpers have been painted at some stage and the rear does show some cracks in the finish. Equally, the driver's door has had dent removal carried out, but some remnants of those dents still remain. The bodywork in general is respectable but would benefit from attention to some stone chips and scratches on the bumpers, as well as a good polish.
