Description
If we had to name two legendary Citroën models, it would certainly be the DS and the SM. The SM, which stands for Série Maserati (since its engine is a Maserati V6), was launched in March 1970 and produced for a total of 5 years, with almost 13, 000 SMs produced.
Its assets at the time were a revolutionary design (reference to the wind), power and, of course, unrivalled comfort (hydropneumatic suspension, like the DS for that matter), not to mention impressive technology at the time (directional headlights, power steering, hydraulic braking, excellent weight distribution, etc.). The oil crisis, the takeover of Citroën by Peugeot and the introduction of speed limits in France brought production of the SM to a premature end. No successor model was produced, which now explains why it is of such great interest to collectors of the model, the brand or enthusiasts of the 70s generation.
NYC's/ OXOTO presents for sale this sublime Citroën SM in brown (scarabée), beige interior in concours condition with less than 96, 700 km on the clock.
Delivered new in July 1973, it is now owned by its Belgian owner who has owned it since February 2013 (purchase at a prestigious auction house). He is a Citroën enthusiast and collector, and knows these models very well. He is selling it because he doesn't have enough time to enjoy it (despite having driven it 15, 000 km in 10 years). According to our information, before becoming Belgian, it was German and may have been Italian in the past. Indeed, we do not have full traceability of the car's life, but its current owner has spent a lot of money to restore it to impeccable condition, as can be seen from the substantial file of invoices for the last 10 years.
The bodywork looks really great, with absolutely nothing to say: no dents, no scratches, not the slightest trace of corrosion (see photos on the deck). The colour is really magnificent!
The interior is also in excellent condition, nothing to say. The seats are magnificent (and what comfort!), the dashboard, the centre console (working radio), the headliner, the carpets - everything is in impeccable condition!
Mechanically, there's nothing to worry about, it drives really well... You can find all the invoices on our website, including a complete overhaul of the engine. The owner didn't hesitate to take it on the road for the photo shoot, without the slightest problem of course... Note that as it was built in 1973, it has Bosch electronic fuel injection, which will increase its power to 178hp.
The latest Belgian MOT report dates from May 2023 (96, 498 km) and mentions only 2 minor remarks about a suspension problem and a possible fluid leak, although we didn't see anything on the ground (a very common remark on old cars).
We also have the period manuals (operating instructions, technical description).
A bridge is also available on our premises to show the underside of the vehicle.
