Description

The Triumph TR6, produced between 1968 and 1976, is one of the most emblematic models of the British marque. The successor to the TR5, it retained the same mechanical base but adopted a design modernised by the German coachbuilder Karmann, giving it tauter lines and a more aggressive appearance. At the heart of this car was a 2. 5-litre in-line six-cylinder engine equipped with Lucas mechanical fuel injection. This version, intended primarily for the European market, originally produced 150 bhp, offering a performance that was highly appreciated at the time. Thanks to this power, the TR6 reached 100 km/ h in around 8. 5 seconds, with a top speed in excess of 190 km/ h. The Lucas fuel injection system, although sophisticated, was sometimes temperamental and required rigorous maintenance to ensure optimum performance. The TR6 is based on a ladder chassis and benefits from independent rear suspension, a feature already introduced on the TR4A. This architecture gives the car a dynamic and pleasant ride, although the rear suspension can be surprisingly responsive during sporty driving. The four-speed manual gearbox, often accompanied by an optional overdrive, allows the full potential of the engine to be exploited while offering a smoother ride over longer distances. The interior is typically British, with a varnished wood dashboard, wrap-around seats and a three-spoke steering wheel that accentuate the model's vintage charm. Despite being a stripped-back roadster, the TR6 remains relatively comfortable for its time and offers a certain refinement. This example is the last carburettor-powered CF series from the USA, imported into Belgium in 1995. It was completely restored between 2001 and 2009 and repainted in Maple blue. It is in excellent condition. It is available with the original rims shown here, or with spoked rims, and is a "matching number" car, as attested by the British Heritage certificate. A file of invoices relating to the restoration is available.
