We’re proud to offer the opportunity to own a very original 1973 Volkswagen Type 2 Bay Window, converted by Devon Conversions Ltd.
This T2 has been in its current ownership since 1983. They’ve created countless cherished memories with it and now hope to pass it on to someone who will appreciate it just as much. Throughout its ownership, a wealth of documentation including service invoices and MOT certificates has been carefully preserved.
This UK-supplied, German-built Bay Window was originally specified as a right-hand drive Kombi. In its early days, it was converted by Devon Conversions Ltd into a 4-berth camper van, complete with a vertical elevating pop top. To this day, the vehicle remains in highly original condition and offers a fantastic opportunity to invest in a true time-warp piece.
Devon Conversions Ltd were well known for their clever, versatile interior layouts and this example is no exception. It offers three configurations: a Kombi layout with two front facing rear benches, a dining setup where the middle bench rotates to face the rear (separated by a table), and a camping layout that transforms the benches into a 3/ 4-width bed. The conversion also includes two child-sized upper bunks.
Storage is generous, with compartments under both rear benches and a wardrobe cupboard. To the right as you enter, you’ll find a double gas hob and a sink with a tap built into the unit, with the gas bottle and water containers stored beneath the rear bench.
Up front, the cabin remains largely untouched, retaining all original dials, dashboard features, and seats fitted with fabric seat covers.
Mechanically and externally, this T2 remains remarkably unmodified. It still wears its original colour scheme Pastel White (L90D) over Sumatra Green (L61B), and features all original running gear including a 1, 700cc engine, automatic gearbox, and factory servo-assisted brakes.
We’ve just carried out a thorough service on the vehicle in preparation for sale, making it ready for immediate use. It also comes with a valid MOT until November 2025.
