THIS delightful 1949 Austin Devon is a model that will always, for me, conjure up pictures of the world famous Austin J40 pedal car. Well, it would wouldn't it? The Devon was the car that modelled for its tiny counterpart. It's that unmistakable front end!
Still such a cute sight after all this years. Here we have an example of one of Austin's first early post-war production cars, now 76-years-old! The 60, 000 miles on the clock would appear to be correct, there is plenty of history, the current V5 states just two former keepers and she is on the button sounding ever so sweet. Gloriously original with a solid chassis and super period interior. Her original leather is a tad dry but can me much improved. It looks as though even the carpets are as old as the car. Brakes are a bit sticky but she has covered only a handful of miles in the past 20 years. Good oil pressure and an easy car to drive with a 4-speed box and 1200cc engine. Comes with a factory fitted sunroof too.
For me, a much prettier car than its successor the Somerset which was a more bulbous looking affair. The marks you can see along the bottoms of the doors are surface spots only and easily improved should you feel the need. The metal on this car is of a high standard and I would imagine those scars have been there without worsening for at least the past 50 years or even more!
