Description
This excellent driving Morris Minor Convertible, first registered on the 15th of November 1963 presents in Tartan Red paintwork, with an aged and but still presentable cream interior. The vehicle has a very solid underside and is mechanically very strong, and its chassis number confirms this is a genuine factory Convertible.
The history that comes with the car includes invoices and MOT records dating back to the late 1980’s indicating the 69, 000 recorded miles could well be genuine. In 1987, when DYY 383B had covered 40, 000 miles, it received a great level of cosmetic and mechanical recommissioning to include, new front wings, new rear wings, new floor pans, a new hood frame and fittings, all new wheel cylinders, new brake shoes, replacement fuel tank, replacement brake drums, replacement windscreen, new quarter light windows and seals, and steering rack. Late in the year of 1988 the engine and gearbox were reconditioned and a year later when a vehicle valuation was carried out, the Morris was described as being excellently maintained, garaged, still beholding its original interior and carrying a market value of £4, 500. Most recently in 2018, a major service was carried out which included all new ignition items, a thorough engine service to include the tappets being adjusted, all new fuel and carb hoses, and the engine was cleaned and painted green.
Upon its arrival we had cleaned the Morris, topped up the fuel, and turned the key. Within seconds the excellent value Morris fired up and we embarked on a road test to check the driving of the car, and we were not disappointed. The engine is strong, and the gearbox is nice and smooth, and overall seems to be a mechanically sound motor car. Today, the car presents as a very well cared for ‘older restoration’ which can be used and enjoyed as it is or is the perfect light project for taking the car to the next level.
Despite the cars current condition having a certain charm that we rather like, it’s clear to see there are some areas that would benefit attention. The hood has served its life and is ready a new one. The boot handle has been removed and is in the boot. There are general paint blemishes on various areas of the car commensurate with a car that has been painted a number of years ago – please message to ask for a link to the walk round video that we have made. The interior is aged and would benefit from some improvements. All in all, a great opportunity for a structurally and mechanically sound car, ripe for cosmetic improvement or can be used and enjoyed as it is.
