HERE we have today's offering. A 1962 Austin Healey Sprite Mark 2.
A really early Sprite, the Mark 2 followed on from the Frogeye and still carried several of the Frog's characteristics. For example, the first ever example of what we all now know as the Spridget shape came with the Frogeye dash (this one still has the rare Jaeger speedo and tacho), bucket style sports car seats, a pull start mechanism, detachable hood, no external door handles and perspex removable side screens. I show the hood in place on one of my photos. It fits nicely into the boot, as do the frame and the side screens.
She is in lovely order, sounding and driving superbly with her correct spec engine for this model. The 948cc twin carb unit which, once again, was in the Frogeye. These early Sprites are highly sought after, their quirky little features supplying very much of the reasoning behind that.
A detailed engine bay completes the happy picture here. The original (correct spec) seats are with the car and are in fine order. Someone has fitted "racing" type bucket seats. Thus the choice is yours.
My classic cars are motoring antiques. Please do not confuse them with your one-year-old Range Rover. This car, for example, is 63-years-old and so will have quirks and faults in there somewhere. These are not always apparent when buying and selling classics which is what I do. I do not restore them, nor do I pretend that they are concours cars. The majority of them go out as they came in, and I continue to enjoy finding more - a skill which is becoming increasingly difficult as many of you will be aware. They deserve to be taken on as "family pets" and cared for through thick and then. They don't make them any more and demand now out-strips supply.
