It was the first BMW to bear the designation "3. 0", indicating the engine capacity. It was the saloon version of the famous E9 coupés and was known for its luxurious interior and modern features. It was also a popular choice among enthusiasts for its excellent driving dynamics, with sporty suspension and rear end.
Its design was robust enough to feature BMW's trademark 'Pan Hoffmeister' rear window angle. Here in action on a 4-door body, its effect adds dynamism to the whole. Nevertheless, saloons are still relatively 'affordable' today given their pedigree, and are rarely seen in collections...
It was replaced by the BMW E23 7 Series in 1977, which was the first BMW to be offered with a diesel engine. The 3. 0L E3 is a pure BMW classic. This magnificently preserved and gleaming example in its timeless Polaris Grey was sold new in Switzerland.
