In the mid-1960s, BMW embarked on developing a new flagship model to replace the Baroque Angel (502) and serve as the predecessor to the 7 Series. Introduced in 1968, the E3 series was elegantly named the New Six. This marked BMW's definitive commitment to inline-six engines, which have since become synonymous with sporty BMWs.
