And now for something completely different! A true barn-find project in the form of a 1960`s Auto Kraft Mk. 4 bodyshell sitting on a Reliant Scimitar chassis with Essex 3. 0 litre V6 sitting under the bonnet. A true one-off. Running up until a couple of years ago, this came to us for fettling but sadly has been rather overlooked with other bigger fish taking priority. In the throws of a tidy up and clear-out of our yard, we have decided to sell “as is” and give someone else the opportunity of taking on this truly unique British special.
Based in Bishop`s Stortford in Hertfordshire, Auto Kraft Shells or AKS as they were known, made fibreglass bodyshells from 1959-1965 primarily to rebody aging Ford 8HP and 10HP saloons or indeed anything with a 7’6” wheelbase. Around 400 were built in total and styling drew heavily from Alfa Romeo Giulia Spider of the same era. Body production ceased in 1965 but the company carried on manufacturing hardtops for MGB Roadsters, Triumph TR4`s and Spitfires.
Our car was a true garage-find when we acquired it back in 2023 and I did actually drive it around our yard before it went into storage awaiting attention. Sadly, it then became forgotten about and since moving it this week, we have made no fresh attempt to get it running. It is for sale “as is” and would make a great winter project. I hope the photographs tell the story. It is what it is, as they say!
The car comes with a current V5C and set of keys.
