Description
This is a restoration project or being sold for valuable working parts.
It drives OK, engine, gearbox, clutch all seem fine. I really don't have the time to work on it, and someone is better looking after it and driving it rather than it being sat here.
Although the vehicle drives it does not currently have an MOT and so presumably would require picking up on a loader.
So to a list of things that need repair/ replacement IF you are looking to restore it:
BODYWORK:
Under bonnet edge is very corroded. would need extensive repair by welding I guess.
Rear Hatch has a large vertical dent from me reversing into a gatepost.
Nearside sill has been deformed by reversing over a large rock - not structural and never affected MOT.
Dent nearside rear above light assembly.
ELECTRICAL:
There is a problem with the indicators - they stopped working years ago and the repair guy did a bypass in the fuse box to get them working. This bypass drains the battery if the fuse is left in. So It's more of a fuse box/ dodgy solder issue rather than wiring failure somewhere along the line.
HOOD/ BONNET
The wire used to open the catch from inside has stretched beyond the point where it opens. As the car is not used, I've left the bonnet down but not shut completely. Opening otherwise entails reaching in from ground level to pull the cable.
ENGINE
Runs fine.
It had a small petrol hose fire in 2012, quickly put out, which melted part of the plastic air intake unit on top of the carburettor. As I could not source a replacement, I repaired it with fibreglass.
DOORS
The opening mechanisms have problems. Nearside front - requires reaching into the door chassis to a lever to reset the mechanism.
Nearside Rear seems OK.
Driver's Door - occasionally needs same treatment as nearside front; window is stuck in closed position.
Offside rear - doesn't open, jammed in the locked position I think requires cutting into the door chassis to find out what's up.
All door trim is off the doors which may need repairs to mechanisms luckily.
SEATS
These are in a poor state due to the sunroof having leaked for a long time - and it still does somewhat.
SUNROOF
Sealed shut but still leaks.
EXHAUST
Tailpipe dropped off!
All items which have been removed are included: removed door trims; radio shroud; battery clamp; hub cap (missing in the inner cap ring which would be fixed to the wheel since it broke apart)
TYRES
New winter tyres in 2019 and not used apart from getting it to it's MOT a couple of times.
ADVISORIES
From memory, the brake lines are pitted. My parents bought this car at 6 months old with 1400 miles on the clock and passed it on to me in 2001. I have had the car SORN'd since 2021 - it had passed its MOT for that year (with advisories) up to that point and since then it has not been used more than occasional starting and brief running on the property.
Haynes Manual, original Peugeot manuals and purchase documentation included.
What amazes me about it is how few repairs it needed in 20 years! The model has a weakness in drive shafts and 2 or 3 have been replaced. Apart from exhausts, tyres etc. that's been it. The bodywork also amazes me - there seems to be a layer of zinc coating since even most paint damage never led to rust. Generally starts first time.
