Description
The Ford Cortina, built in various guises between 1962/ 82, was the UK’s best-selling car of the 1970’s with the second incarnation (Mk2) designed by in-house engineer Roy Hayes in production between 1967/ 71.
The top-of-the-range 1600E was launched at the Paris Motor Show in 1967and combined the lower suspension of the Lotus-Cortina with the high-tune GT 1600 Kent engine, spotlights, rostyle wheels and luxury trim featuring wood door capping/ dash, sports seats/ steering and full instrumentation.
It was an immediate success with the press, buying public and car thieves alike – my Silver Fox example was stolen in 1977 and I recovered her a week later from Nottinghill London - she was sitting on milk crates looking very sad for herself.
We have been wanting to market a 1600E for some time but nothing to Jamie's exacting standard was available. We were therefore absolutely delighted when a regular customer approached us to sell his outstanding Series 2 restored by a previous owner and well known to the 1600E club.
Summary of Car:
· 1969 Series 2 car finished in Amber Gold (Code B4)
· Restored by the previous owner, a retired Ford Engineer (Photographs)
· Mileometer zeroed after restoration and under 1, 000 miles since
· All 1600E upgrades including dealer option overriders and mirrors
· Interior seats, door cards, carpets, wood dash/ door caps all excellent
· Underbonnet and boot are to show standard
· Window rubbers replaced as required/ new windscreen
· All mechanical components checked during restoration (coil etc)
Today the car is to show standard with outstanding paint, chrome and interior. On the road the car does not disappoint with super smooth gear change. willing engine and Cortina handling – the back will still step out when provoked.
The history folder contains the original 1600E driver’s handbook and a variety of invoices, contemporary Ford Sales brochure etc.
The Mk2 1600E is one of the most popular classic Fords you could wish to own and good, correctly restored examples to this standard are almost impossible to find.
We recommend an early viewing and test drive in order to fully appreciate this remarkable car.
