Description
Great looking, low owner very original Ziebarted example, one of the 420 made in the last few weeks of production.
About of this car
According to the MGB Club certificate on file this is a genuine home market, RHD vehicle built on 10/ 10/ 1980 and first registered 07/ 04/ 1981.
Our chassis, number 869 (roadster chassis number 290of 420), was optioned with:
GKN “Stag” Alloys
Bronze metallic paint
Red/ silver badges
Front spoiler
Gold body decals
Crucially, it was also Ziebarted from new which has kept the body and chassis in amazing rust free condition; it even has much of its factory paint!
Accompanying the vehicle is a substantial history file dating back to the 1990s with expired MOT certificates, owner correspondence, tax discs and maintenance invoices.
The previous owner bought the car in 2011 and the one before owned it for 17 years.
The recorded mileage of 75000 is warranted as genuine from new.
Bodywork
This is the main reason to buy this example as the bodywork and chassis is all factory and has never corroded.
Panel fitment is good and the doors shut with a nice thunk, paintwork is thin and lovely with a couple of minor storage marks and a few areas of blow-in paint rectification, although a lot of the finish is factory; wheels, chrome and glass are all first class (glass is security etched).
The hood is perfect and a tonneau cover is provided.
Mechanicals
Our car has recently been serviced and on test drives just as it should, benefitting from careful usage and regular servicing over the years. The engine was rebuilt at 58, 000 miles; there are no knocks, groans, smoke or other issues, the car is very smooth and tight.
An advisory free MOT is supplied expiring 02/ 06/ 2026. There is an impressive MOT history for this car, the vast majority evidencing advisory free passes.
The engine bay is leak free with protective Ziebart treatment on the inner wings.
Interior
This again is all original with the funky deck chair style cloth upholstery, in really lovely preserved order, a true time warp! (protective seat covers supplied, not shown).
Boot
Full size spare, cover and jack all in place, fire extinguisher fitted.
Summary
A delightful original example the likes of which are vanishingly difficult to find in such untouched, unspoilt condition, these cars nearly always come to market either restored to varying degrees or hanging. Supplied with history file and two sets of original keys. ULEZ and tax exempt, too!
