Description
The Jaguar 340 was produced for just a year, from September 1967. The model is a great route into classic Jaguar ownership, offering slightly better value than the similar MK2 cars. They benefit from the “straight port” cylinder head as fitted to the “E” type and 420 models so although quoted power was similar to the 3. 4 MK2, acceleration was quicker.
This car is a 1967 Jaguar 340 automatic saloon in Dark Blue with a red interior. It was first registered September 1968, making it one of the last ones produced. The mileage reading is 46, 000 which may be correct but there is not enough paperwork from its early years to guarantee this. The last owner bought it in 1991 from Robin Burdon sports cars. He used it for three years but a due to work commitments it went into dry storage in 1994 and left more or less untouched until we bought it earlier this year.
We have just completed a long list of re-commissioning jobs, including an oil and filter change, new plugs, overhauled distributor with new points, condenser and rotor arm, fuel tank removed and flushed, fuel line and filters cleaned, new fuel pump, carburettors overhauled, three new sections of exhaust, new battery, voltage regulator, solenoid and long list of other minor parts and various cosmetic improvements. It has also had a comprehensive brake overhaul and upgrade with “Zeus” callipers fitted front and rear, new flexi hoses and rigid brake pipes.
The car has survived well, thirty-five years after restoration; the underside is in good solid order with original jacking points. The upper body presents well - there are various minor paint imperfections close up but no unpleasant blistering. The chrome, bright-work, interior and trim are all presentable but not perfect. A new headliner in the correct material was fitted when the last owner bought it. All of the electrics are working except for the original time clock. The only alteration from standard spec is a manual over-ride switch for the AED.
This car clearly offers value. We have just carried out a few test miles and the car is running and driving well and starts instantly but clearly will require gentle initial use. Please call to discuss.
