Description

BMW Alpina B12 5. 0 Coupé With the aim of transforming the legendary BMW 8 Series (E31) into something truly unique, Alpina created in 1990 the B12 5. 0 Coupé. This exclusive model is regarded as the pinnacle of German engineering of the era – luxurious, ultra-high-performance and produced in very limited numbers. It combined the fascinating styling language of the 8 Series coupé with the artisanal precision and engine know‑how of Buchloe. Its beating heart was the V12 BMW M70 meticulously revised by Alpina: pistons with higher compression, modified camshafts, specific intake and exhaust systems, and tailored engine electronics. From 5 litres of displacement, Alpina thus extracted an impressive 350 hp. The engine remained true to its character: silky operation, smooth power delivery and sovereign torque, even at high speed. The chassis was redesigned to offer maximum precision and stability, without sacrificing the touring comfort typical of the marque. Paired with the Switch-Tronic automatic gearbox, the B12 5. 0 could exceed 280 km/ h – placing it among the fastest Gran Turismos of its era. Aesthetically, the B12 also stood out: subtly integrated front and rear spoilers, classic Alpina multi‑spoke wheels and the typical decorative stripes lent it elegance and power in equal measure. The interior offered extreme refinement: fine leather, inserts in precious wood and individually numbered details – each unit was a unique piece. The B12 5. 0 was aimed at connoisseurs of discreet refinement, seeking the perfect balance between sovereignty, luxury and performance – willing to invest more for exclusivity and Buchloe craftsmanship. With only 97 units produced, the B12 played a pioneering role – proving there was demand for a more sporty and exclusive version of the 8 Series. When BMW launched the 850 CSi in 1992, Alpina replied the same year with the B12 5. 7 Coupé – raising the bar even higher. Another page in the unofficial and ongoing competition between Alpina and BMW. History of the example offered This Alpina B12 was delivered in 1992 by the renowned BMW/ Alpina dealer Heidegger in Liechtenstein, before moving to Switzerland where it was used with care and maintained throughout its life. Its nearly complete service history, as well as the mandatory Swiss anti-pollution checks, attest to exemplary, uncompromising maintenance. Today, this rare coupé presents itself in a condition close to that of an almost-new car – a true exception after more than three decades. The paint is dazzling; the front was recently repainted with care to meet the highest standards. The interior welcomes its driver in a two-tone Alpina leather signed by Alpina, perfectly preserved and almost like new. Every detail reveals the love of a job well done: Alpina leather steering wheel with contrasting stitching, blue gauges with red needles, gauge graduated to 340 km/ h. In addition: exclusive equipment: gear lever clad in Alpina leather, two-level heated seats, cruise control, electric sunroof, automatic climate control, BMW Business CD radio, as well as an on‑board computer – naturally without the infamous “pixel defects” that often affected BMWs of that era. The whole creates a luxurious and timeless atmosphere, designed for those who want to enjoy, on long journeys, not only speed but also elegance and comfort. This Alpina B12 5. 0 is not simply a coupé – it is a Gran Turismo of rare intensity, embodying yesterday as today the summit of German engineering and bespoke craftsmanship. Currently, this example has French registration papers. Summary The BMW Alpina B12 5. 0 Coupé is much more than a revised version of the 8 Series – it represents the pinnacle of an era where German engineering and Buchloe’s artisanal perfection gave birth to a true automotive icon. With its exquisitely smooth V12, an impressive top speed for the era and an interior combining luxury and individuality, it embodies the spirit of the perfect Gran Turismo. This example, with its full history, nearly new condition and rare Alpina interior, ranks among the jewels capable of combining passion, exclusivity and timeless elegance in a unique way. A coupé for connoisseurs – and for those who seek much more than a car: a true piece of living automotive history. A Gran Turismo cut for the left-hand lane of the Autobahn.
