The Morgan Roadster replaced the Plus 8 back in 2004 as Morgan wanted a larger capacity V engine to run alongside the four-cylinder engine used in the Plus 4’s. Although not having the “V8 Rumble” of the Rover V8 the Ford 3. 7-litre Cyclone V6 made up for this with blistering performance. The 280bhp felt like twice as much due to its weight, weighing in at just 940kg…. That offers a comparable power-to-weight ratio to a 997 GT3 RS or an Audi R8 V10 !!
I often wonder when the ladder frame was conceived way back in 1936 (The same year the Iconic Bright Red British phone box hit the streets!!) If they ever imagined the chassis would be responsible for containing a whopping 280 BHP, I think it would have been almost incomprehensible for them to imagine. However, jump forward 82 years, yes, that’s just over 8 decades and this 2018 Roadster is doing exactly that, 280 BHP and 0 to 60 in 5. 5 seconds! What a way for this chassis to sign off, leaving the title as “The most powerful model to be based upon the legendary steel chassis” This Car is not only a sports car its a true British mark of madness! Sadly in 2019 the production of the Roadster ended so this particular Roadster is one of the last Roadsters and ironically, she’s aptly finished in Pillar Box Red! Sharing a nod & farewell with another iconic design legend, the great British phone box.
