Description

History of the BMW E9 Coupe
The BMW E9 is undoubtedly one of the most iconic models in automotive history. It still embodies today the perfect blend of elegance and performance. It made its first major appearance in 1968 at the Frankfurt International Motor Show (IAA) with the introduction of the 2800 CS – a model that laid the foundations for the future success of this series. The arrival of the 3. 0 CSI in autumn 1971 marked a decisive turning point: equipped with fuel injection and 200 horsepower, this coupé set new standards. The E9’s design is a masterclass in automotive elegance. The long bonnet, flowing lines and the sporty, poised profile give the 3. 0 CSI a unique presence on the road. Particularly notable is the famous Hofmeister kink on the C-pillar, named after designer Wilhelm Hofmeister. Italian influence is also evident: this style had already appeared on the BMW 3200 CS designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro at Bertone. This stylistic fusion gives the E9 a lightness and finesse rarely seen in its era.
But the E9 is not just about aesthetics. Under the bonnet, a powerful inline six of 3. 0 litres delivers sporting performance. 0–100 km/ h is completed in under eight seconds – an impressive performance, whether on the motorway or winding roads, combining dynamism and comfort. The E9 also left its mark on motor sport. It served as the basis for numerous racing models developed by BMW Motorsport in the 1970s, setting new benchmarks. The pairing of technical perfection with refined design made the 3. 0 CSI a highly coveted model in its day. Produced in only 8, 144 units, the 3. 0 CSI is today a highly sought-after piece by collectors. Driving this coupé is to step back into a bygone automotive era without losing any of its magic. The BMW E9 3. 0 CSI remains a timeless symbol of style, innovation and driving pleasure – a masterpiece that continues to captivate enthusiasts around the world.
History of the BMW 3. 0 CSi -SSC-623 offered here
The BMW 3. 0 CSi, VIN 22635xx, was ordered on 25 July 1972 by Dr Ludwig M. d’Oberursel at the BMW Friedel & Zervas dealership in Frankfurt, in the rare Inka colour (022) with a black interior. According to our research, only 11 BMW 3. 0 CSi were ordered in this shade. The additional options ordered included: electric front windows, a second exterior mirror, a radio with automatic antenna, and three-point seat belts.
On 12 October 1972 the vehicle was completed, the corresponding invoice issued, and shortly after it was registered under the plate HG-V 500. Until 1985, Dr M. kept every service or repair invoice, even the smallest. In 2010, Eric Bunte, founder of the legendary Dutch company German Exclusive, acquired this exceptional CSI to restore it to its original configuration, then add it to his private collection. The bodywork was professionally restored with faithful attention to detail and repainted in its original colour. Due to time constraints and capacity, Scuderia Sportiva Colonia was tasked with finalising the vehicle’s assembly. Current photos testify to this. In addition to the original sound-deadening mats, Scuderia installed an extra layer of acoustic insulation. The body planks are currently polished to a high gloss.
Please note: The new owner still has the choice of the final configuration of the vehicle:
• Original black velour seats or, on special request, in black leather
• Original four-speed manual or five-speed overdrive
• Restored original engine with 200 hp, or a discreetly optimised version with programmable fuel injection and electronic ignition developing 240 hp
• A choice of wheels: Pedrini 14-inch wheels with chromed hubs or Alpina 16-inch replicas
The customization possibilities are virtually endless. In short: a perfect, like-new BMW 3. 0 CSi, in one of the rarest, most elegant and sporty colour combinations, has been prepared by us according to the wishes of the new owner. Once finished, the car will need breaking in according to factory guidelines. We also offer a one-year warranty, provided all maintenance work is carried out in our workshop.
Summary
Scuderia Sportiva Colonia places exceptional emphasis on these technically advanced coupés. With their captivating lines, excellent chassis, strong brakes and powerful engine, these cars represented – at the start of the 1970s – the benchmark. BMW’s slogan “The Joy of Driving” takes on full meaning in the BMW E9, in a way that is unique and inimitable...
