To this day, people wonder what Volkswagen was thinking back then – and are glad that they did it. The Passat W8 is the result of a time when Volkswagen engineers were allowed to do whatever they wanted: a 4. 0-liter eight-cylinder engine with 275 hp, all-wheel drive, and manual transmission – packed into an inconspicuous station wagon that has almost achieved cult status today.
This Volkswagen Passat W8 4Motion Variant in the rare color “Deep Blue Pearl” (known from the iconic Golf R32) was first registered in Switzerland on July 30, 2004. The vehicle came to Germany in 2022 via a dealer with only 32, 600 km on the clock and was sold to its current owner in Heidelberg in December of the same year.
In January 2024, the W8 was fitted with a new KW suspension to optimize the familiar, slightly spongy standard handling – a measure that gives the car significantly more precision and driving pleasure without compromising comfort.
To this day, the Passat is still in its original paintwork, accident-free and in its original condition. With only around 48, 000 km on the clock and a full service history at VW/ Audi, this model is a real rarity. Its features include a removable tow bar and a manual transmission – a detail that makes it even more desirable.
Of the approximately 11, 000 Passat W8s produced, only about 2, 300 were delivered to Germany, and even fewer as station wagons – certainly not in this condition.
