Description
HERE is a rare bird these days. A 1961 Morris Mini Minor Deluxe in the early "Mini colour" of Clipper Blue. This delightful piece of motoring history is a late November 1960 build and was registered early in 1961. As a pre-October 1962 model, she still has the early gearbox (the 22a145 "dial-a-gear" version). She has all matching numbers and so please do not confuse with so many Minis which are "bitsa" cars. You know. Bits of this and bits and that. So many end up with an identity crisis with later shells on early cars and all sorts of incorrect parts. Everything about this Mini is correct.
The sills, for example, are the early style flat ones which were in effect part of the floor pans. They pre-date the later vented ones. Pre-June 1961 Minis - which this is - have different shells known as lightweight shells. These are usually preferred by Motorsport folk.
What a gem she is (and I include photos of the underside). Two-tone rexine interior is another early feature. She in on the button - which of course is on the floor - and ready to go.
Top class panels and paint work, she really is a gem. And the radiator grille of course is painted cream - yet another correct spec early feature!
