Description

First seen at the New York Motor Show on January 25th 1986, the Aston Martin V8 EFI Series 5 Saloon was produced from 1986 through to 1989.

The Series 5 models, still hand built back then, are generally considered the most refined and reliable of the AMV8 lineage. Beyond the fuel injection system, they incorporated various updates and improvements developed throughout the V8's long production run. The electronic fuel injection (utilizing a Weber/ Marelli system) notably improved tractability and fuel efficiency. This also removed the necessity for the bonnet bulge that characterised earlier V8 models, leading to a flatter bonnet design.

The Series 5 cars retained the venerable 5. 3L V8 engine, but the adoption of the Weber/ Marelli electronic fuel injection system led to a smoother and more fuel-efficient power delivery, delivering 310 bhp and 345 lbs/ ft torque.

The Series 5 also features an integrated rear spoiler, adding to its sleek design. Of the 405 V8 EFI saloon built worldwide, only 61 were made for the UK market.

This early example in Salisbury Blue, with a light blue piped Connolly leather interior and contrasting blue carpets, comes with an Aston Martin Heritage Trust Vehicle Heritage Certificate, confirming it as a matching numbers car in its original colour.

It has a full service history totalling 28 to date, from a mixture of Aston Martin Ltd in Newport Pagnell and marque specialists such as Aston Works, R. S Williams and Nicholas Mee. There are 25 stamps in its service books to 2020 and invoices for all other services from 2021, to its last in October 2024 at 88, 796 miles. There is also a comprehensive file of additional maintenance invoices going back from 2025 to the 1990s.

The current owner when sourcing an AM V8 was clear he wanted an EFI Series 5, that he could use and enjoy, as opposed to one just to add to a "static" collection. As such, an excellent service and maintenance history and consistent MOT history showing regular usage, with no long periods of inactivity, were an imperative. Overall condition needed to be very good, but he was not looking for a concours or freshly restored example, as originality was also an important factor. The car was to be used and enjoyed as the GT car it was built to be. Current mileage is just over 89K and beyond continued servicing and maintenance, remains in the same condition as when he bought it from the Aston Workshop in 2020. The one exception being, the fitment of an uprated suspension handling kit, which greatly improves the driving dynamics over the standard set-up.

As the ultimate, last-of-line model before the Virage, the Series 5s are much sought after not just as the rarest of the AM V8 lineage, but also for their improved refinement, easier starting and excellent build quality, representing the pinnacle of this iconic V8 era.

Having thoroughly enjoyed the car for 5 years, the current owner is in the heartbreaking process of downsizing his current collection. This however, provides the opportunity for the next enthusiast looking for an attractively priced excellent example of a Series 5, that has been lovingly maintained and usefully upgraded, to drive and enjoy.
