There are Alfa Romeos, and then there are special Alfa Romeos. This one belongs firmly in the latter category. A Giulia—but a Scioneri. And it has been far too long since we last encountered one.
The name may sound vaguely familiar. Scioneri was not a large-scale coachbuilder, but rather a refined outsider. In the 1960s, they produced bespoke versions of existing Alfa Romeos, often distinguished by subtle refinements and just a touch of added elegance. This Giulia 1600 S received, among other things, a beautiful metallic finish, tasteful chrome accents along the flanks, and an interior trimmed in what Alfa referred to as “Aerpell”—a high-quality synthetic leather with a distinctly upscale appearance.
The color is officially called Grigio Grafite, a deep anthracite grey that truly comes to life when the sun sits low on the horizon. The interior is black. Classic. Businesslike. Italian in the best possible sense. And no—this is not a refurbished example filled with aftermarket additions. This Alfa remains in genuinely fine and original condition. The bodywork is straight, panel gaps are excellent, and the paint presents very well. The interior is equally impressive, beautifully preserved and largely original.
Under the hood sits the familiar 1. 6-liter four-cylinder engine, known for its strong performance. But that is not why you buy this Alfa. You buy it for the feeling. This Giulia is light on its feet, lively, and eager to be guided through corners. The five-speed manual gearbox shifts smoothly, the clutch is light, and the steering? Pure Alfa Romeo: direct, sharp, and wonderfully communicative.
What adds even more charm is the documentation. Original brochures, period registration papers, and the Alfa Romeo Certificato di Origine are all present. No vague backstory here—just a rare and special Alfa in truly lovely condition.
In its day, the Giulia was a driver’s car in every sense. A police car in Italy, a family sedan for the style-conscious gentleman in Turin, and a rally hero on the gravel roads of Tuscany. This particular version—the 1600 S Scioneri—is rare, but above all, it is subtle. No loud badges, no spoilers, no stripes. Just an elegant sedan with character. Reserved on the outside, spirited on the inside.
