Er replacing the 100-6 in 1959, the Austin-Healey 3000 is perhaps one of the most desireable English sports cars produced in the sixties. The new car proved incredibly popular around the world, particularly in North America. Initially made available in two-seat roadster (BN7) and 2+2 convertible (BT7), the new car was visually identical to the older car yet offered additional performance and safety. Naturally, the car received continual updates throughout its lifetime, with a Mark II variant released in 1961 with a more powerful motor and a new 'sports convertible' (BJ7) body style more focused on comfort.
In February 1964, the 3000 Mark III was announced. A new camshaft and carburetors increased power to 150hp (from 136) and power brakes become standard. An updated instrument cluster and new upholstery rounded out the major changes. Shortly thereafter in May 1964, Austin-Healey released a "Phase 2" update for the Mark III with a modified rear chassis to help address a longtime concern with their cars: low ground clearance. The Mark III continued production through 1967 and, while a Mark IV was prototyped, proved the be the final and most desireable iteration of the vaunted "big Healey".
The superlative 1965 Austin-Healey 3000 Mk III BJ8 Phase 2 Roadster featured here is displayed in classic Healey Blue Metallic over a Blue leather interior with a matching Blue folding convertible top. Constructed on July 9, 1964, this remarkable Austin-Healey was optioned with chrome wire wheels, a laminated windscreen, a heater, and an exceptionally desirable overdrive transmission. having been fully restored to award-winning condition, this sensational 3000 Mk III presents beautifully today. We are proud to present this superb "Big Healey" to the most discerning collector, investor, or enthusiast seeking only the finest at an investment price!
