Mercedes-Benz SL 300 (R107) – 1987
A very well-presented example of the iconic Mercedes-Benz SL 300 R107, offered for sale having been purchased directly from its previous long-term owner. Registered on 19 February 1987 and showing just 103, 000 miles, this classic SL is sensibly priced in the current market and represents an excellent opportunity to acquire a well-maintained and largely original example.
Finished in its original paintwork, including the hard top, the car presents extremely well. It is currently undergoing minor body rectification, further enhancing what is already a very nice example. The car also benefits from a very good hood, strong mechanical performance, and a reassuring history file.

The following comments were supplied by the previous owner:
The car was owned for several years after being purchased from a local doctor. It was used sparingly, well cared for, and is believed to be largely original with minimal restoration work.
• Welding previously carried out at the front by the side of the radiator following a previous MOT failure
• Hard top remained fitted throughout the previous owner’s ownership

⸻
History & Provenance
This SL is accompanied by a substantial and well-documented history file containing a large number of invoices, MOT certificates and supporting documentation accumulated over many years of careful ownership.
The most recent keeper acquired the car in July 2010 from Chelsea Cars of London, a long-established Mercedes-Benz specialist, at a recorded mileage of 91, 256 miles. The original purchase invoice from Chelsea Cars remains present within the file. The last two recorded keepers share the same surname, with the address later changing from Malabon Road, London to Newark, suggesting the car remained within the same family ownership.
MOT records show the car has covered relatively modest mileage over the years and has seen very little use in recent times, having been placed into storage from approximately 2017. The most recent MOT was completed on 25 September 2025 at 103, 296 miles, with the car passing with no advisories, and showing only 11 miles covered since the previous test.
Earlier MOT records show the following mileage progression:
31 March 2017 – 103, 285 miles
25 March 2016 – 102, 879 miles
1 April 2015 – 102, 634 miles
10 October 2012 – 99, 089 miles
16 July 2010 – 91, 256 miles
18 June 2009 – 90, 481 miles
The history file documents a variety of maintenance carried out over the years. In 2017, work was undertaken to the bulkhead, supported by invoices in the file, and the area presents very well today.
Maintenance during 2015 and 2016 included replacement of the distributor cap, rotor arm, spark plugs and battery, with the braking system stripped, cleaned and adjusted. An ABS fault was rectified with the installation of an OVP relay, with the invoice for this work totalling £621. 45. The car also received a brake fluid change, along with work to the boot lock mechanism, which was removed, cleaned, lubricated and refitted, and the installation of a new battery isolator switch.
In May 2016, the vehicle was serviced by a Mercedes-Benz main dealer in Doncaster, at approximately 102, 996 miles.
Earlier work includes a full service and new tyres in October 2012, with an invoice totalling £417. 36, together with additional maintenance undertaken by Benz Service Centre, a Mercedes specialist.
Invoices in the file continue back through previous ownership, including work carried out in 2007 at 86, 484 miles, when the car received a full service, MOT and brake work, along with further servicing in 2006 and earlier.
While some of the earliest invoices are no longer present, the car retains a stamped service book beginning at 59, 000 miles in February 1998, with servicing carried out consistently by the same Mercedes-Benz specialist for a number of years thereafter. Recorded entries include 62, 545 miles (1999), 65, 314 miles (2000), 73, 169 miles (2002), 78, 465 miles (2003), 85, 419 miles (2006), 86, 380 miles (2007), 87, 971 miles (2008) and 88, 765 miles (2009).
From 2010 onwards, servicing was undertaken by Mercedes-Benz main dealers, with corresponding invoices retained in the history file.
Altogether, this SL benefits from an impressive and well-preserved history file, demonstrating long-term ownership, conscientious maintenance and very limited use in recent years, making it a particularly well-documented example.
