Description

Project Car

The overall appearance of UBD 413G is good. It presents as a clean, tidy and honest example, with older but consistent paintwork and a well-kept interior. It offers a sensible all-round package at a realistic price point. While there is scope for further detailing and some non-essential cosmetic paintwork, this has been reflected in the asking price. It is a strong, usable car that could be improved further if desired. The car is being sold at a reduced price as a light restoration project and, as such, no warranty is offered.

First registered in 1969, this Triumph TR6 was built at Coventry on 8th December 1968 and dispatched to the North American market via British Leyland Inc. in San Francisco. Supplied new as a left-hand-drive export model, it left the factory finished in Jasmine with black trim and hood, and was specified with a heater, laminated windscreen and Goodyear tyres. A British Motor Industry Heritage Trust Certificate accompanies the car, confirming its original build and export details.

The certificate records that the car was despatched on 22nd December 1969 to British Leyland Motors Inc., leaving Samuel Williams Wharf, Dagenham aboard the vessel Simonburn.

Little is known of its time in North America, but the car returned to the UK in 2015. It now presents as a straightforward and well-prepared example, with an emphasis on usability rather than cosmetic restoration. At some stage it was converted to right-hand drive, and it is believed that a reconditioned engine was fitted during its life (the odometer currently displays 34, 790 miles). Overall, it feels like a usable and correctly set-up TR6.

The straight-six engine runs on twin SU carburettors, avoiding the complexity of the Lucas fuel-injected PI system. The engine and four-speed manual gearbox operate as they should, and the car drives in a manner consistent with a well-maintained example. The interior remains tidy and largely original in character.

Since arriving with us at The Forge, over £7, 000 has been invested in preparation. This has focused primarily on key driving components, along with some cosmetic improvements, including work to the suspension, steering, braking, drivetrain and fuel system. Supporting invoices are on file.

In summary, this is a sound and usable TR6 offered at a sensible price, with scope for further cosmetic enhancement if required. It is sold as a light restoration project at a reduced price, and no warranty is implied or given.
