Description
Presented here is an exceptional 1986 Ford Fiesta XR2, powered by the lively 1. 6-litre petrol engine and paired with the all-important five-speed manual gearbox.
This particular example has had just two previous owners from new, with the most recent custodian caring for the car for the past 15 years — a rare level of long-term ownership that speaks volumes. Showing just 33k genuine recorded miles, it is an extraordinarily low-mileage car.
We have undertaken a comprehensive recommissioning programme to ensure this car presents and drives as it should.
Underneath, the car has been carefully cleaned, stripped and protected. Mechanically, the carburettor has been stripped, cleaned and tuned, complemented by a new distributor, HT leads and spark plugs, along with a fresh engine oil service. The cambelt has been replaced, front wheel alignment carried out, and both rear wheel bearings renewed as required.
Braking performance has been subtly enhanced with upgraded Wilwood master cylinders, while a brand-new set of Nankang tyres have been fitted to each corner of this car.
Cosmetically, the car is a delight. The iconic ‘pepper pot’ alloy wheels are all present and in superb condition, free from damage, corrosion or notable marks.
Pleasingly, the details so often lost over time remain intact — original fog lights (original Ford box still present!!), original Ford radio in working condition, parcel shelf, engine bay stickers and even the supplying dealer “Go Perrys” Ford plates and front towing eye piece of paper! The original book packs and manuals are present, alongside a history file containing invoices, receipts and a folder of previous MOT certificates.
Advisory free MOT till Feb 2027.
This is a time warp example of a now highly collectible 1980s icon, a car that would be near impossible to replicate to this standard without considerable time and expense. The opportunity to acquire such a genuine, low-mileage XR2 is increasingly rare.
A true driver’s classic, ready for its next Ford enthusiast custodian.
