1964 - Jaguar E-Type 3. 8 Roadster Chassis no. 881749 French registration Vehicle sold without technical inspection Notice: "Sortie de grange unique: exemplaire livré neuf en France, matching numbers!" The Jaguar E-Type Series 1 3. 8, launched in 1961, is one of the most emblematic sports cars in automotive history. Designed by Malcolm Sayer, it seduces with its sensual lines and long hood. Its 3. 8 in-line 6-cylinder engine develops 265 hp, enabling it to reach speeds of up to 240 km/ h. Innovative with its disc brakes and monocoque structure, it combines performance, elegance and relative affordability for its time. Our example was delivered new on July 3, 1964 from Delecroix, Paris, in an elegant Opalescent Golden Sand color combination with black leather interior. As one of the last examples to be fitted with the 3. 8, it already benefited from some of the 4. 2 modifications: vinyl dashboard, door armrests and even a long, more user-friendly deck! In 1968, the car was purchased by Mr. L., then a young nightclub manager. The engine and gearbox were swapped with those of an E-Type 4. 2, and the seats, judged uncomfortable, with those of a Corvette... Probably visionary, Mr. L. took care to preserve the original components, enabling us to sell the car with its matching engine and gearbox, and the two bucket seats specific to the Series 1 3. 8. Mr. L. considered the car too discreet, so he decided to widen the rear tracks, fit a custom exhaust system and change the rims! As the years went by, the car was used less and stored in a warehouse near Paris. Disaster struck when the neighboring property caught fire and our Type E was damaged, but not burnt. Mr. L. will never take the time to bring the car out again before 2023, the fateful date of the move and separation. The car then ended up with its current owner, a fanatic of the brand who exhibited the car in his garage with the aim of restoring it... Halfway between an objet d'art and an exciting restoration project, this Jaguar Type E is undoubtedly one of the last hidden examples waiting for better days. For the most discerning collectors and experienced mechanics, #881749 is one of the rare examples delivered new in France, and is just waiting for a little attention to get it back on the road!
