Description

A beautifully restored Minor Traveller 1000 LHD from the final production run. Originally delivered in Germany for the British Army, known as BAOR: British Army on the Rhine. And as you know, the army maintains its vehicles with great precision, because you don’t want your car to break down when the Russians are approaching. So the car has been well looked after from the start and has been driven very little. And there are two further advantages: it is a left hand drive and there is a speedometer with a kilometre counter. Fitted with a Belgian number plate.

During the restoration, the Traveller was repainted in the stunning Minor and Mini colour ‘Almond Green’, and the paintwork looks absolutely immaculate with hardly any signs of wear. The exterior looks excellent, the doors hang perfectly straight and they close like a (British) safe. No welding has ever been carried out on the Minor, which is quite exceptional. The famous iconic ash wood frame has been renewed and is in perfect condition. A nice detail: the tailgate handle hangs vertically, just as it should! Chrome parking lights are fitted to the front mudguards. The wheels have been repainted and recently fitted with five new tyres. It is an older, yet high-quality restoration, and it is a great compliment that the Morris is still in such fine condition.

The interior is also in great condition. The dashboard features a glove box with a lid (hard to find) and a coolant temperature gauge, so you can see that the engine stays at the perfect temperature. The dashboard lighting uses LED bulbs, providing more light and better visibility. The wooden banjo steering wheel, which has only been in the car for a year, is simply stunning. The original steering wheel is also included. The green upholstery is original and still remarkably neat, though the left-hand seat shows a few more signs of wear. The headlining has been renewed and there is an armrest in the left-hand door.

The Minor always starts on the button, as the engine is fitted with electronic ignition and the last owner had everything properly tuned. True to the motto ‘starts on the button’! The reconditioned engine runs smoothly and has plenty of power. The gearbox shifts smoothly and is quiet; the differential is also free of noise. The odometer reading has been checked. This Minor has also been well maintained recently and improved in many areas, such as new brakes including the master cylinder, alternator and new battery, new tyres, main power switch, light under the bonnet, etc.

The Minor is a highly reliable classic car thanks to its simple and straightforward engineering. It is essentially the British Beetle, but more versatile, as the Beetle was not available as a four-door or estate model. When it was launched in 1948, it was hailed as ‘the world’s supreme small car’, and 1. 6 million were built. Beloved by nurses, shopkeepers and family men alike thanks to its charming design, simple operation and low maintenance costs. And so it was also popular with the British Army.
