Description
Gorgeous 1962 T-Bird Coupe in excellent near-Concours condition.
And what a car ! Imported in 2017 by its one and only UK owner, a GRRC member, when he paid $28, 500 from a Florida dealer for this rust-free Arizona car excluding shipping and taxes.
Since then, the car has undergone discreet but subtle upgrades and drives absolutely superb.
This example is part of the third generation of T-Birds, nicknamed "bullet birds" for they are designed in the shape of a, you guessed it... bullet ! A great improvement on its rather boxy "square bird" predecessor and before this once great Ford moniker turned into something rather insignificant...
The third generation also featured some of the most impressive and comfortable interiors, the dash of which featuring clear hues of the space exploration era.
This particular example is the upmarket "Landau" version, featuring a faux-cabriolet vinyl top, and marketed as the ultimate personal luxury car 2-door sports saloon.
It features as standard : power steering, power brakes, "sway-away" steering wheel for easy access and bucket seats.
In addition to these, this examples features the following options : leather seats, front seat belts, electric windows, electric seats, airconditioning, radio, wind deflectors, rear "fender" shields above the rear wheels, dual exhaust system, white sidewall tyres and chrome wire wheels a. o. In other words, a fully "loaded" example which must have cost a fortune when it came out of the Wixom, Michigan factory in August 1962 heading for Arizona where it spent most of its rather sheltered life.
The car presents extremely well with great paintwork, great panel alignment and gaps, very sound & tidy rust-free undercarriage, superb chromework (very rare on these cars) and a superb very well-preserved interior with minimal wear and patina. The cabin is indeed a very comfortable place to be, all dials work including the clock and the Thunderbird labelled radio works as well, how fantastic !
On the road, its manners are exemplary, the 6. 4L (390ci) V8 engine purrs along majestically and its torquey 300bhp engine is very responsive. Its power steering makes this 2-ton vehicle very agile and easy to handle. This 64-year old gentleman's carriage is truly a pleasure to drive !
The file contains numerous invoices for servicing, subtle upgrades and parts from the last owner's 9 year tenure totalling ca. £8, 000, various documentation and a 1962 Ford Thunderbird Shop manual which is an extremely useful workshop manual.
To sum up, an extremely well-sorted and well-presented example, ready to show or use during this classic car season which has only just begun.
