Description
The 1988 four-door Range Rover Vogue SE, also known as the “Forecourt”, stands as a testament to British automotive excellence. No other car was as versatile and luxurious as the classic Range Rover 4x4, launched in 1970. The four-door version, introduced in 1981, added an extra touch of luxury to the classic Range Rover.
Powered by the legendary 3. 5 L V8 EFI petrol engine producing 163 bhp and paired with a smooth 4-speed ZF automatic transmission, the Range Rover delivers robust performance and a cruising speed of 120 to 130 km/ h. The permanent four-wheel drive, with a lockable centre differential and a low-range transfer case, ensures exceptional off-road capability without compromising on-road refinement. And with an interior more in line with the luxury Grand Tourers of the era, one car suffices for both on- and off-road travel.
This restored 1988 Range Rover Vogue SE, in Chamonix White, was delivered to Madrid, Spain, and has remained in exceptional condition throughout its life thanks to meticulous maintenance and a dry climate, ideal for its preservation.
A single owner from 1988 to 2001 kept the Range Rover from off-road use and it has always been carefully maintained by specialised workshops in the Madrid region, adhering to Land Rover’s recommended service intervals and passing every annual technical inspection in Spain.
In 2001, the Range Rover was sold to a new owner, also in Spain, who kept it for 19 years. In 2018, he oversaw a complete restoration using mainly original or OEM parts where originals were not available. The scope of work is extensive and includes: complete bodywork and paint repair, a full bare-metal chassis overhaul, a full engine and gearbox overhaul, electrical system, shock absorbers, suspension bushes, front and rear brake calipers, discs and pads, an entirely new light-grey leather interior with dark-grey piping as original, and new rubbers on all doors and the tailgate. The list is long and covers the entire vehicle; photos can be supplied on request. All work was carried out by specialist workshops.
All period-correct Vogue SE equipment remains intact and operational, such as high-pressure headlamp washers, air conditioning, heated mirrors for rapid demisting, electric windows around the perimeter including the rear window, central locking, and long-range auxiliary Hella lights. The rear seats fold down to increase the already expansive luggage area.
Following an 18-month full restoration in 2018, this iconic Range Rover Vogue SE blends the classic Range Rover design with the practicality of a restored example and was used in the summer by its current third owner. The Range Rover is in immaculate condition, restored, and perfectly combines classic appeal with on-road practicality.
