Background
The 718 Cayman was introduced in January 2016. The exterior of the 718 Cayman is very similar to the third generation 981, more of an evolution than a redesign. The most notable changes are to the rear of the car, which now has a long black-trim bar across the rear connecting the two taillights. The headlights & bumper are also heavily reworked. On the sides, the mirrors have been redesigned, taking cue from the Sport Design mirrors on the 981 GT4. The 718 GTS 4. 0 featured a slightly detuned 4. 0 litre flat-6 taken from the GT4 & Spyder, which still produced 395bhp & also featured cylinder shutdown technology to save fuel, the engine alternates which 3 cylinders to shut down when on partial load, increasing fuel efficiency whilst uniformly heating both sides of the engine & exhaust system. The 718 Cayman / Boxster was assessed to be mechanically superior to the 981 model with improved acceleration & steering.
Exterior
Our hand selected 718 Cayman GTS 4. 0 looks stunning in its metallic coat of Dolomite Silver, which has an Ice Blue hue, moreso than Rhodium Silver. The Satin Black 20-inch 718 Sport Wheels look sensational against the bodywork. The Cayman GTS 4. 0 has been fitted with Full Front Paint Protection Film by Topaz & Ceramic Coated from new, which will help protect the paintwork & repel surface contaminants. All the trim has a perfect finish, as do the front & rear LED lights. The windows drop as they should when you open the door. The front & rear boot struts also operate as they should.
Interior
The Cayman GTS 4. 0 comes with the optional 18-way Adaptive Hardback Sports Seats Plus which feature adjustable bolsters, lumbar support, knee support, Porsche Crest embossed headrests, along with optional 3-stage heating. The optional memory system stores the drivers seat position, both mirrors position & optional steering column position in each of the two original Porsche keys, plus 2 extra profiles accessed on the drivers door panel. An optional easy access function can also be enabled which moves the seat back & steering wheel up on entry/ exit, making it easy to get in and out, even when you are parked in a tight space. The seat & wheel automatically return to their stored positions when you get in & put the key in the ignition. The optional Extended Leather in Graphite Blue has Blue stitching & is a perfect pairing to the Dolomite Silver bodywork. There are no marks or signs of wear to any of the trim parts, panels or switchgear, with the leather retaining a wholly fresh appearance throughout.
Engine & Transmission
Our 718 Cayman GTS 4. 0 is equipped with the mid-mounted 4. 0 litre flat-six boxer engine that produces 395bhp & 317 lbt-ft that propels the rear wheel drive sports car to 60mph in under 4. 4 seconds & on to a 182mph top speed. The axle load distribution of approximately 45:55 ensures high directional stability & superb road behaviour. The engine starts cleanly when cold or hot, there is no smoke whatsoever either at startup or when driving. There are no unusual sounds or rattles when the engine is running.
With its compact design & low weight, the 6 speed manual gearbox is a simple, direct way to tap into the power of the Cayman GTS 4. 0
The Porsche is fitted with Sport Chrono Package Plus, which adds SPORT, SPORT PLUS, INDIVIDUAL, DYNAMIC RESPONSE & LAUNCH CONTROL modes that sharpen the throttle response, decreases shift speeds, hold gears for longer & blips the throttle on downshifts whilst also adding a dashboard mounted stopwatch to add to the sporting image of the 718 Cayman GTS 4. 0. These modes are selected through the ‘Ferrari style’ manettino rotary dial located on the optional multifunction GT Sports leather steering wheel.
Wheels, Tyres & Brakes
Our 718 Cayman GTS 4. 0 comes fitted with the 20-inch 718 Sport lightweight alloy wheels finished in Satin Black, which are unmarked, free of kerbing damage & corrosion. The brakes are phenomenal, cross drilled & vented discs front & rear. The callipers are painted Guards Red from the factory with White PORSCHE lettering. The tyres are matching Porsche N0-rated Michelin Pilot Sport 4S with lots of tread remaining, having been recently replaced
